Welcome to the San Diego Cinco de Mayo con Orgullo Coalition

“Hands-Off Holiday’s Campaign”

The Cinco de Mayo con Orgullo coalition works to address the issues of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse that disproportionately affects youth and their families.

Linking cultural celebrations and holidays with alcohol sends a dangerous message to children and youth who learn little about the true meaning of the holiday.

Sponsorship by alcohol companies at community events and alcohol advertisements send a message that it's necessary to consume and abuse alcohol to celebrate and have a good time.  Receiving money from the alcohol industry for your community events may seem like a quick and easy funding source; but it comes with negative consequences such as littering, violence, arrest, DUIs, public intoxication, sexual assault and underage drinking.

A True Friend?

Irresponsible advertising and marketing practices promote binge and underage drinking.  Binge drinking alone is the leading factor in death and serious injury among youth and young adults in San Diego County.

The San Diego Cinco de Mayo con Orgullo Coalition is a project of SAY San Diego, partially funded by San Diego County and Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
